Computers in Libraries Book Club

I’m sure other years when I’ve attended Computers in Libraries conference there was talk of books or books inspired presentations. How could it not being a library conference? But for some reason this year I came away with a list of new (well new to me) titles to read. Some were recommended to me by talking to colleagues (at lunch or right before a session) and some were recommended during presentations. So I thought I’d pass them along.
- The information [a history, a theory, a flood] by James Gleick recommended by Michael Sauers Although a thick book Michael said he read it in 3 sittings!
- Gardening at the Dragon’s Gate by Wendy Johnson recommended by Jill Hurst-Wahl
- In Pursuit of Elegance by Matthew May recommended during the session In Pursuit of Library Elegance given by Erica Reynolds and John Blyberg
- Reflective teaching, effective learning by Char Booth recommended by Heather Braum
- Influence: Science and Practice by Robert Cialdini, Ph.D recommended during the session Persuasion & Permission given by Elaina Norlin and David Lee King.
- The Great Good Place by Ray Oldenburg recommended by Jill Hurst-Wahl via her post on her session with Maurice Coleman and Paul Signorelli on Planning & Realizing the “Fourth Place”
- Made to Stick by Chip Heath and Dan Heath recommended by Julie Strange
Boy have I got a lot of books to read!
